Oak Trees have always been economically important for their hard, strong wood which has a multitude of purposes including furniture and flooring. The oak tree also have landscape uses although mature trees can dominate smaller sites.
White Oak Acorns are 1-3 cms long and egg-shaped with approximately one quarter enclosed by shallow cup.

Once boiled in water to remove the tannins the acorns can be dried, roasted or ground into flour and used in cakes, pies or cookies.
